  • Swimming, especially in polluted water, may cause bacteria to enter the ear, and this is one of the causes of earache from outside.
  • The hot and humid climate leads to what is known as an ear infection in this case as tropical ear.
  • Having an allergy or sensitivity to some products such as hair sprays and hair dye can irritate the ear canal, which is one of the causes of external ear pain.
  • Accumulation of earwax in the ear canal or accidentally pushing wax into the ear when cleaning it, and this can trap water in the ear canal, making it wet and increasing the possibility of infection, and this is one of the causes of external ear pain.
  • Having a little earwax, often due to over-cleaning, protects the inner part of the ear from infection.
  • The ear canal is narrow, which means that water can collect and this makes it a fertile place for bacteria to grow.
  • Eczema and psoriasis.

Having a condition that affects your immune system, for example, HIV/AIDS, and these were the causes of earache from the outside.

Ear pain treatment 

After identifying the causes of ear pain from the outside, the stage of treating ear pain  , which may take a long time depending on the severity of the symptoms.

Medical treatment methods include:

  • Over-the-counter pain relievers Your doctor may recommend pain relievers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen to help relieve any pain, and may prescribe codeine if the pain is severe.
  • Ear drops Your doctor may prescribe ear drops that contain an antibiotic or antifungal.
  •  Sometimes this may be combined with a corticosteroid. You usually need to use it for at least seven days and up to a maximum of 14 days.
  • Antibiotic tablets or capsules. Oral antibiotics are not usually required for an outer ear infection, but a doctor may prescribe them if the patient has a serious infection or an infection that cannot be treated with ear drops.
