What are (Valdoxan 25 mg) agomelatine tablets and what are they used for?


Valdoxan tablets contain the active ingredient, agomelatine. It belongs to a group of medicines called antidepressants. Agomeltine tablets are used in adults to treat depression.

Depression: It is a persistent mood disorder that interferes with daily life. Symptoms of depression vary from person to person, but often include deep sadness, feelings of worthlessness, loss of interest in favorite activities, sleep disturbances, feeling sluggish, anxious feelings and changes in weight.

The expected benefits of agomelatine tablets are the reduction and gradual elimination of symptoms related to depression.

What you need to know before taking agomelatine tablets:


(Do not take agomelatine) in the following cases

If you are allergic to agomelatine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

If the liver is not working properly (hepatic impairment)

If you are taking (fluvoxamine) another medicine used to treat depression or (ciprofloxacin) an antibiotic.

Caveats and precautions


There could be some reasons why agomelatine tablets may not be suitable for you

• If you are taking medicines known to affect the liver.

•       If you are overweight or obese.

•       If you have diabetes.

• E If you have increased liver enzyme levels before treatment.

•           If you have bipolar disorder, or have or have had symptoms of mania.

•       If you suffer from dementia.

If you notice any of these signs and symptoms of liver problems: unusually dark urine, light-colored stools, yellow skin/eyes, upper-right abdominal pain, unusual tiredness.

•     If you are depressed, you can sometimes have thoughts of harming or killing yourself. This thinking may increase when first starting antidepressants.

• Children and adolescents: Omeliatin tablets are not intended for use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

Drug interactions with other medicines:


You should not take agomelatine tablets with some medicines:

• Fluvoxamine is another medicine used to treat depression.

• Ciprofloxacin (an antibiotic) The doctor may adjust the dose if necessary.

 

• Be sure to tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines: propranolol (a beta-blocker used to treat high blood pressure), enoxacin (an antibiotic) and if you smoke more than 15 cigarettes/day.

• Gomelatine tablets with alcohol: It is not recommended to drink alcohol during treatment with agomelatine tablets.

Pregnancy and lactation:


• Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

• Speak to your doctor if you are breast-feeding your baby or intend to breast-feed as you should stop breast-feeding if you are taking agomelatine tablets.

How to take agomelatine tablets


• The recommended dose of agomelatine tablets is one tablet (25 mg) at bedtime.

• In some cases, your doctor may prescribe a higher dose (50 mg), ie two tablets to be taken together at bedtime.

• Agomeltine tablets start to treat symptoms of depression in most people with depression within 2 weeks of starting treatment.

• Depression must be treated for a sufficient period of at least 6 months to ensure that you are cured.

•       agomelatine tablets are for oral use. The tablets should be swallowed with water. Agomeltine tablets can be taken with or without food.

 If you forget to take agomelatine tablets, do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. Just continue with the next dose at the usual time.

Most of the possible side effects are mild or moderate. They usually occur within the first two weeks of treatment and are usually temporary. These side effects include:
