Product ingredients

Dextromethorphan 3 mg/ml syrup

Product uses

Cavocid syrup is used as an antitussive for cough and dry cough that is not accompanied by phlegm, and also as an antitussive for cough caused by chest allergies.

How to use the product

• Always use any product under the supervision of a doctor or pharmacist
• Dosage for adults and children over 12 years old: 5 ml four times daily
• Children under 12 years old: Preferably under the supervision of a doctor
• Dosages can be changed in certain circumstances and under the supervision of a physician

Warnings and side effects

• Do not use if you are allergic to dextromethorphan
• For children under 12 years of age, use under the supervision of a doctor
• If you suffer from liver problems or chest problems such as asthma, or if the cough is accompanied by phlegm
•  If you suffer from lung disease
•  if you are taking, or have taken within the past two weeks, medicines to treat depression known as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)
•  if you are taking an SSRI (used to treat depression and anxiety such as fluoxetine, paroxetine, and sertraline)

Other medicines and dextromethorphan

• If you are taking any other medicines, including:
• • Certain medications for depression such as norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake inhibitors (NDRI), which include bupropion
• • Antipsychotics (medicines used to treat mood disorders such as haloperidol, thioridazine, perphenazine)
• • Antiarrhythmic agents (medicines used to treat arrhythmias such as amiodarone, propafenone, quinidine and flecainide)
• Calcium mimetics (medicines used to treat secondary hyperparathyroidism, high levels of parathyroid hormone such as cinacalcet)
• • Antifungal (terbinafine)
• • opioid analgesics

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, it is not recommended to use this product unless under the supervision of a doctor

How to store dextromethorphan

• Do not store above 30°C.
• Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
• Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton after EXP. The expiration date refers to the last day of the same month.
• Do not dispose of medicines in wastewater or household waste.
