Ciprofloxacin is used to treat or prevent infections caused by bacteria that are sensitive to ciprofloxacin.
Do not take ciprofloxacin:
If you are allergic to the active ingredients, to any of the quinolone antibiotics, or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
If you are taking tizanidine.
Caveats and precautions
Tell your doctor about all of your health conditions, including, if you have:
If you suffer from tendon problems.
If you have heart problems, including heart failure (weak heart) or an irregular heartbeat.
If you suffer from problems with the nervous system such as epilepsy or seizures.
If you suffer from nerve problems.
If you suffer from kidney problems.
If you suffer from liver problems.
If you suffer from rheumatoid arthritis or other joint problems.
If you suffer from myasthenia gravis.
if you have diabetes.
If you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
This drug may cause inflammation, tendon rupture, or nervous system problems.
People over the age of 60 are more likely to develop tendonitis or rupture. Heart, kidney or lung transplant patients; or people taking steroid drugs.
Children under the age of 18 are more likely to develop joint problems.
Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Possible side effects
Stop using this product and seek immediate medical attention if you develop a rash; Itch; red, blistered, or peeling skin; chest or throat tightness; trouble breathing, swallowing, or speaking; Unusual hoarseness or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat. The frequency with which these side effects occur is not known.
Stop using this product and contact your doctor if you experience symptoms of tendon problems such as pain and swelling.
Serious side effects:
Swelling and tendon rupture
Nervous system problems
Problems with the nerves of the arms or legs
liver problems
Arrhythmias and QT prolongation (corrected electrocardiogram)
Deterioration in myasthenia gravis
Joint problems in children
Other medicines and ciprofloxacin
Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take. Ciprofloxacin interacts with a large number of drugs.
Do not take ciprofloxacin with tizanidine. Your blood pressure may drop and you may feel sleepy.
How to take ciprofloxacin
Take this drug as ordered by your doctor.
Take this drug at the same time of day.
You should take this medicine with a full glass of water.
It is forbidden to take the drug with dairy products such as milk, yogurt, or juices rich in calcium.
Swallow the tablets whole.
Avoid chewing, breaking, or crushing.
Adults: The usual dose is between 250-750 mg every 12 hours.
Children: Doses are usually given according to the child's body weight in mg/kg/dose. It is usually between 10-20 mg/kg/dose every 12 hours.
How to store ciprofloxacin
Store at room temperature 68 to 77 degrees F (20 to 25 degrees C).
Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton.
